FINANCIAL FREEDOM WORKSHOP
We have seen too many clients paying 400% interest on payday and/or title loans, or spending months not answering their phones because of creditor harassment, or losing their bank accounts because the bank charged them excessive fees. That is why we have partnered with District 6 Councilor Sheila Tyson to present the Financial Freedom Workshop. It addresses the most common financial mistakes that we've seen clients make.
Credit Scores
Credit scores are another financial hurdle for young, working-class and/or minority communities. These groups have less access to credit than other communities which makes us more vulnerable to high interest rates and predatory loans. However, information is power. The presentation instructs on the simple steps to improving credit scores, and identifies the most common credit traps.
Credit Reporting
Credit Report - During the workshop we will have a station set up where we will assist attendees in pulling their credit reports. We will review the reports and burn them to a cd, at no charge. Next we will review the reports with them and if there are errors we will write dispute letters to the 3 major credit reporting agencies.
Our communities, in particular, are targeted by payday and title loan lenders. Even mortgage companies offer less favorable deals to poor and/or minority communities. Armed with information, we can fend off these predatory companies and keep our families safe and stable in their homes.
